Hi Folks,
Yep... became a newbie today!  I bought a New leftover and last one they had 2008 TRX700XX Red - Black today.... excited, hope it is a wise choice, considered a TRX450ER.. But as a 48 yr old male, not a racer, never raced, was looking for a trail riding machine with family and blowing off steam.. OK STRESS!

I have a question, and since I read the brochure for this it's begining to haunt/bug me... "EXTENDED WARRANTY - HondaCare" should I do it?________

I have just a very short time period to decide, the dealer allowed me pretty much 24 hours or so to do so...   The Cost is $510 for an additional 36 mo/ of coverage beyond the 1yr that it comes with.  I believe it's the Platinum Plan but marked N/A for both Tire & Wheel and GAP.

DO I DO IT...  OR OK WITHOUT?______________  Yes____   No_______ and why you feel this way____________ please!

I don't think the warranty is a good option. I got it on my previous 400ex I purchased from honda but i never used it. From what I hear they try to do anything they can to get out of keeping the warranty up. Lots of conditions in the fine print.

i honestly dont beleive that you will need/use it. it will only cover something that had broken that honda would normally warranty. it still wont cover normal maintance items or if you go out and abuse the quad and something breaks.

if it is through HONDA, it would be a ok to get it so you can sleep at night   ;D

alot of dealers sell an "extended warrenty" which is mainly just a money maker for them and its through the shop and has nothing to do with honda.    :-[

I will have to agree with this. If you have the money to spend, and the warranty is through Honda, it would definitely help you sleep at night. But if the warranty is through the dealer shop, I wouldn't buy it. They are only providing it to profit, they will do everything they can to avoid fixing your XX when something happens.

You have until the end of your 12 months to purchase the extended warranty.  You can buy them on ebay from Honda dealers if you will do your homework.  I just purchased a 700xx last week and the dealer wanted $500 but I passed on it for now.  I found one on line for $399 and from a Honda dealer.  I bought one the same way for a Rincon back in '04.  Don't remember the name of the dealer but it was in the mid-west somewhere and not from the dealer I purchased the bike from.  I will add the extended one next year when I see how well the bike holds up.  I never used the one on the Rincon once the 1st year was up.  All I ever had done to it was replace the electrical plug where you plug in accessories.  But, that being said, I would like to have the piece of mind knowing I have one.  That's just over $100 a year and worth it to me.  That is something you have to decide.  When I bought my Raptor, I decided I didn't need the extended warranty and could have used it a couple of times for repairs.  Would it have paid for itself?  Probably would have broken even but if I had lost 2nd gear like a lot of them were when they first came out, then it would have been well worth it.  I have always said that insurance was just legalized robbery, but sometimes it will pay off.  I would say buy it, but wait awhile.  Sounds like the dealer is pressuring you for a sale.  I would be leary of him.  Just my 2 cents worth.
